Apple removes displays from front page of store

Apple removes monitors from front page of storeI’ve been saying for a while that Apple is due to announce new displays any day now. Apple’s current Cinema Displays were released at WWDC in June 2004 and three and a half years is an eternity in consumer electronics.

Some time last night Apple re-shuffled the layout of the front page of their online store and removed all mentions of the Cinema Display. They didn’t remove the displays entirely though. You can still find them by clicking on Accessories in the left navi, then on Displays. But it’s a definite snub.

Non-conspiracists will maintain that Apple did it to make room for the Christmas items that they’re featuring, but I’m not buying.

Apple’s new Cinema Displays will most likely feature LED backlighting, an HDMI port, a built-in iSight camera and a new industrial design. If they only come with a glossy finish, look for a boycott and protest–at least from me. New Cinema Displays will most likely get unveiled at Macworld Expo on 15 January 2008.  (Thanks Ciro)
