Wagering on WWDC 2008 (lines updated 3x)

Update2: One interesting aspect of following betting odds is that they change as people bet. The bookmakers want an even amount of bets for both the favorite and the underdog, that way they’re guaranteed to make money. As people bet more on one side, they change the odds to entice you to take the other side. Since posting this story, the odds have started to move, which tell a story of their own.

Straight betting payouts work like this: If the bet has a minus (-) in front of it, you have to bet that much to win $100. If its has a plus (+) in front of it, that’s how much you win if you bet $100. For example, in the first bet (32GB iPhone at WWDC), if you bet $300 on the favorite (Yes), the payoff would be $100 (plus your $300 back). If you bet $100 on the underdog (No), the payoff would be $200 (plus your $100 back).

Update: BodogLife.com is also taking bets on if Jerry Yang will lose his title as CEO of Yahoo! by July 31st, 2008? (Yes +250, No -400).
Update2: The Jerry Lang line is staying put for the time being, despite Carl Icahn seeking to oust Jerry Yang as Yahoo’s CEO.
