The MacBook Pro's "glassy" screen and floating heads

I received this email from a reader about my relentless criticism of Apple’s new glossy (or should I say, “glassy?”) screens.

I think you should coin the phrase “Glassy” rather than “Glossy” because I got a new MacBook and I have to say that the glass causes a much different reflection than the glossy screen on my old MacBook.

Check out this clip from ArsTechnica’s [MBP] review where they were showing off BioShock and I have to say that it’s pretty accurate as to what I’m seeing on my MacBook. Just watch that floating head and try not to get a chuckle.

On the old MacBook I’d get an annoying outline of myself that I’d have to mentally block out. But this new Mac is sometimes giving me full HD reflections and it’s so bad that it’s humorous.

Yes, people say you can change your backgrounds, turn off certain lights or move your desk around but I hate the idea of changing my life to make the machine happy. That kind of behavior is how the Terminators were born.

Video like the one above and this picture are reasons why I won’t be buying any MacBook with a glossy display.
