TiVo coming to iPhoneI used to be a huge fan of TiVo until the cable companies made me a deal that I couldn’t refuse. While I still like the TiVo interface much better than the abysmal Comcast DVR, it comes down to simple economics.

The cable companies are willing to cut deals and practically give DVRs away in order to keep you locked into their service. TiVo didn’t license their software to the cable companies (except for a brief stint with DirectTV) which may have been a fatal mistake.

That being said, TiVo may be on life support, but they’re still kicking. And for people still living the TiVo dream comes hope in the form of a cool Web application that allows them to control their DVR from the iPhone.

According to Electronista the new Web app (m.tivo.com) allows iPhone and iPod touch users the ability to remotely find and schedule programming and view daily picks and most popular shows. The Web app requires a TiVo Series 2 or 3 DVR and an active subscription to schedule.

The TiVo Mobile site is in beta and should be officially launching in next few weeks.
