What’s on my iPhoneA common pastime at Macworld Expo was comparing iPhone apps with friends. You could see people everywhere huddled around  their iPhones sharing tips on their latest and greatest app discoveries.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m anything but a gamer, but I loaded up on a few extra games than I’d normally have for my recent travels. I’m glad that I did.

This list doesn’t include apps like Google voice search, Pandora, iPhlix and some of my other staples because they’re pretty much a given at this point. That being said, here’s what I’ve been rockin’ on my first few pages on my iPhone (in no particular order).

  1. Brothers In Arms - Hour of Heros (iTunes, $5, pictured). A first-person shooter set in WWII with amazing 3D graphics that will blow you away. It’s worth it for the opening demo reel alone, which pretty much kicks the PSP’s ass.
  2. Armageddon Squadron (iTunes, $3) – A similarly beautiful 3D, this time a WWII flight simulator. Top notch
  3. Ocarina (iTunes, $0.99) – Play a virtual flute by blowing into the mic and pressing buttons. It’s corny but addictive in a weird way. The best part is the live globe showing who’s playing around the world. All of the Smule apps are pretty interesting.
  4. Enigmo (iTunes, $2) – Fun and addictive 3D game where you have to re-direct water into buckets using a series of tools. It has realistic physics and you can download additional levels for free.
  5. Touch Grind (iTunes, $5) – Skateboarding sim where you navigate the skateboard with two fingers via multitouch. Practice that kickflip you always wished you could do.
  6. MotionX Poker Quest (iTunes, $3) – Dice based poker game where you shake the iPhone to roll the dice. This update app adds new Egyptian themes and 50 sets of dice that can be unlockd as you advance.
  7. Radioshift Touch (iTunes, $10) – Stream thousands of Internet radio stations with this excellent port of the OS X app. You can search the station list here.
  8. Public Radio Tuner (iTunes, free) – Just want NPR and don’t want to buck up? Tune in your local public radio stream, for free.
  9. iOwn (iTunes, $5, lite version, free) – Great little iPhone database for organizing your stuff. Take a picture of an item an add it to you personal inventory. Online backup is free and you’ll soon be able to add items online.
  10. Delivery Status Touch (iTunes, $2) – If you get a lot of deliveries you need this handy app. You can keep tabs on all of you pending deliveries in one convenient screen. Like Flight Update, launching it refreshes all your statuses.
  11. BONUS pick: Ski Lodge (iTunes, $2) Great way to keep track on snow reports on your favorite ski resorts in the U.S. and Canada. Also includes trail maps and weather info.

Honorable mention goes to Health Cubby ($5), a promising fitness tracker from the guys who gave us Gas Cubby, my favorite fuel economy tracker for the iPhone.
