Don't feel like working? Bag Friday (at the Famous Wine Bar)
A short-series of reviews of some of the latest bags I’m toting.
For today’s premiere installment of Bag Friday I want to let you in on a little secret: Crumpler makes good bags. People who know me or ran into me at Macworld Expo pretty much know that I totally dig their bags. They’re functional, solid and great looking, what’s not to like?
I previously put Crumpler’s Cork and Fork ($495) in my Holiday Gift Guide (the bag hall of fame) because it’s the ultimate camera bag/backpack. This uber-wheelie (pictured on the bottom) fits in the carry-on compartment of commercial airplane and the inner removable case has customizable dividers and room for two DSLR cameras and plenty of lenses. The best part is that the inner bag doubles as a backpack for day-tripping and comes in especially handy when you need to bring home more stuff than you brought.
The perfect companion bag to the Cork and Fork is the Famous Wine Bar ($150), which is perched on top of it in the picture at right. A cavernous backpack, the Famous Wine Bar can hold a metric ton of clothes, gear or whatever. It’s like a tall, bottomless bucket that never seems to end. In fact, it’s so big that you can easily fit a case of beer (in bottles) in this bad boy. (If you don’t believe me, check out some of the videos at the link above.)
If you’re not shy, you can go all sorts of flashy in the color department - everything from bright oranges and reds to green camo are available. I tend to prefer the more subdued blacks and browns for my travel gear so that I can fly under the radar.
