Make your own (RED) MacBook Pro

After Friday's launch of the (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano to benefit The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, there are some rumblings that Apple may extend the program to include other products as well.

Think Secret reports that Apple may be considering creating a red MacBook and iMac to support the cause.

Sources have reported that Mr. Jobs and Bono have discussed bringing a (RED) iMac and (RED) MacBook to market, as well.

It's more likely that Apple would issue a red MacBook (non-Pro) because its polycarbonate shell is easier to color than aluminum. The MacBook currently comes in either black or white and the addtion of red wouldn't be a big change.

On the other hand, Apple just released a slew of iPod nano colors, including the (PRODUCT) RED model, so in theory Apple could just as easily anodize the MacBook Pro's aluminum enclosure in red.

I would definitely consider a red nano if I hadn't just have purchased a black one, but I don't know if I would buy a red MacBook Pro. Although it's a great cause I'm not a huge fan of red as a color and a fire-engine red MacBook Pro might grate on my nerves after a while.

If you like red, you may want to consider the new SeeThru hard shell (pictured) for the 15-inch MacBook Pro (US$40) from Speck Products instead. SeeThru MacBook Pro cases are made of translucent hard plastic and come in either clear or red - although not that (RED). Then you can donate some money to the AIDS charity of your choice to show your support - and you can remove the red shell if it gives you a headache.

SeeThru hard shells are only available for the MBP currently, Speck mentions that they will be available for the MacBook 13-inch "soon."

Question: SeeThru hard shells and heating
Doesn't covering a MacBook Pro with this kind of protection harder for the computer to keep itself cool, or it makes it easier with more material around to dissipate heat?... (Read the rest)
