Apple to Cisco: Suit is "silly"
The latest round in the Apple v. Cisco slap fest is that Apple spokesman Steve Dowling was quoted as saying the Cisco lawsuit is "silly" noting that several companies are already using the term "iPhone" for VoIP handsets. Dowling went on to call Cisco's iPhone trademark "tenuous at best," according to the Wall Street Journal.
Although the distinction is pretty clear: Apple's iPhone is a GSM-based, mobile phone, whereas the Cisco/Linksys iPhone is a VOIP phone that only works when connected to a permanent Internet connection. But will the courts see it that way? Somehow, I don't think so, and judging by your votes, neither do you.
Will the courts see it that way? I guess we'll have to see. It's a real bummer that just when the dark cloud from the stock option backdating scandal begins to fade from our memory, Apple does something as stupid as this.
