10.5.7 increases hackintosh battery life
It was less than 48 hours ago that I reported that Mac OS 10.5.7 was causing grief for some hackintosh owners who couldn’t wait to install Apple’s latest update on their netbooks.
What a difference two days makes.
MyDellMini Forums member “conq” has found a solution for installing 10.5.7 on the Del Mini 9:
- Download the installer, don’t use Software Update.
- Install 10.5.7, in my case i downloaded the Combo.
- Let it reboot.
- At the boot screen use the -x to enter Safe Mode.
- After in Safe Mode run DellEFI.
- Reinstall the Mini 9 Extensions and remove custom dsdt.aml file.
- Reboot.

But it gets better.
A thread in the MSI Wind Forums on 10.5.7 Battery Life claims that Mac OS X 10.5.7 can provide a significant boost to battery-life on hackintoshes. Poster “jackobus” claims that 10.5.7 boosted battery performance on an MSI Wind from 3.5 to 4.5 hours. Another poster
On 10.5.6 I was getting about 3 hr 45 min to a charge. With 10.5.7 I now get 5 hr 5 min
If accurate this amounts to increase of 33% with that machine’s a six-cell 4400 mAh battery — which is staggering.
So far, no battery love for the Dell Mini 9/Vostro A90 hackintoshers though. Several posters in the MDM 10.5.7 thread have commented that they have not noticed any improvement in battery life on that machine. Which is a bummer.
