Engadget reports that Multi-touch Cinema Displays, featuring technology borrowed from iPhone, may be on the horizon from Apple.

Steven Johnson speculates that all these hints about new, unannounced features for Leopard, combined with a delay in the release of new Apple Cinema Displays, the coming launch of the iPhone, and rumors about a new "ProTools killer" that relies on touch screens, all point toward the introduction of new multi touch-capable displays and the rollout of iPhone-like multi touch interfaces across Apple's product line.

It began with a story on ArsTechnica about the successor to Apple's Logic Pro 7. The story goes that the music creation and audio production application is being re-written from the ground up to be a "ProTools killer."

According to the reports the unnamed application will require Mac OS 10.5 "Leopard" and will work with a new line of touch sensitive Apple displays.

Touch screen displays would fit well in Apple's hardware lineup and would be a way to justify the company's premium monitor prices. The technology would also be a nice little surprise feature announcement in Leopard and further promote the iPhone. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer to find out.
