Lights, Camera, AppleApple has invited video production professionals and the media to a special event at next month's National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference in Las Vegas. AppleInsider speculates that the company may announce a new version Final Cut Pro and an Octo-Core Mac Pro and there have been rumblings about this for a while.

Most non-news broadcast productions are edited on basic non-linear systems like Avid Media Composer or Adrenaline and then "finished" on a high end post-production workstation like Avid Symphony.

It has been rumored that Apple is preparing a super high-end version of Final Cut which would rival the lucrative "finishing tools" market that Avid has traditionally dominated. I'm sure we'll see many enhancements and a few new toys at NAB that will require faster hardware and Leopard. We'll probably also see the fruit of Apple's recent acquisition of asset management company Proximity at NAB. Some form of their ArtBox software is likely to get rolled into the Final Cut Studio suite.

NAB2007 runs from 14-19 April 2007 in Las Vegas.
