Munster: Jobs to appear on 9/9/9
Apple’s mum on the topic but a new letter to customers from analyst Gene Munster claims that Steve Jobs will be the speaker at the company’s September 9th media event.
If it pans out it would be Jobs first appearance at an Apple event since October 14, 2008 when he introduced the unibody MacBooks. In January 2009 he took a six-month medical leave of absence.
Invitations to the 9/9/9 event (pictured) look like an iTunes gift card, sporting a silhouette of a woman jamming out to her iPod. The caption reads “It’s only rock and roll. But we like it” — a tribute to the Rolling Stone’s song.
New iPods with cameras and possibly a major upgrade iTunes are expected at the event but an Apple tablet has pretty much been ruled out. In his note, Munster describes the substance of Apple’s event as a “non-event” from Wall Street’s point of view. Munster also predicted that the iPhone will go non-exclusive in the US by next year.
My bet is on a tie up with The Beatles, after all, Apple’s event is on the same day as the re-mastered Beatles catalog goes on sale. Coincidence? I doubt it. Wouldn’t it be great if Paul and Ringo came out to do a little song at the end? Don’t rule it out.
Take the poll:
