Treo 755p not much of an upgrade

Palm Treo 755pPalm has released a successor to the Treo 700p (my current phone) called the 755p (US$279 w/Sprint contract). While it's promising that Palm still appears to be committed to the Palm OS platform, its not much of an upgrade.

At first sight, it's maroon (more like brown, actually) and it lacks the antenna indigenous to previous Treo models, but they're they only upgrades over the Treo 700p. I don't consider dropping SD for miniSD an upgrade, btw…

Our own Larry Dignan has the point-counterpoint on the 755p but Engadget says it best:

It's the same version of the Palm OS (version 5.4.9), same screen size and resolution (320 x 320 pixels), same wireless radio (EV-DO Rev 0, not even a bump up to Rev A), same Bluetooth (1.2, you'd think it'd kill 'em to upgrade to 2.0), same 1.3 megapixel camera, same battery life, same processor (312MHz XScale), same amount of memory (128MB of RAM), etc.

I guess that the Treo has to stay relevant and it will keep getting upgraded, but it smacks of desparation in light of next month's iPhone launch. Is anyone actually buying smartphones right now?

On a photo of the keynote announcing the iPhone, one of the bullet points was that it WILL sync with Exchange. Steve didn't dwell on it, but it was there.

So that criticism is unfounded.
