MacBook displays: good or bad?
Apple has long touted their MacBook (and Pro) displays as tops in their fields but apparently everyone doesn’t agree.
A class action lawsuit filed in San Diego Fred Greaves and Dave Gatley and unearthed by Engadget states that Apple’s portable displays don’t live up to the hype. The suit accuses Cupertino of deceptively advertising the quality of the displays on its MacBook and MacBook Pros.
Apple have been known to call them “gorgeous,” “bright,” and with “pristine clarity.” My personal favorite claim comes from the MacBook Pro graphics page - “enjoy a nuanced view simply unavailable on other portables.”
The complaint alleges that Apple advertised the MacBooks as capable of displaying “millions of colors” when they can only do that by “dithering.” Also, MacBook users complain about “grainy” or “shiny” displays that is not evidenced when booted into Microsoft Windows XP.
Apparently Jason Calacanis agrees, but Al Gore doesn’t.
