iPhone to ship with surprises?

Like a lot of people I bashed the iPhone just after its introduction for having a fixed battery, paltry memory and lack of OTA downloads and iTunes streaming.

It turns out that Apple may be pulling their classic under-promise and over-deliver move in a bid to capture a larger share of the mobile phone market and to make a big splash with the iPhone.

A blogger posted a juicy piece about how Apple will be shipping iPhone with many more features than originally advertised. Vim3 posted yesterday that iPhone will ship with:

  • Substantially larger flash memory
  • User Replaceable Battery
  • Wireless N Support
  • Variations of iWork and iLife
  • iTunes Streaming via Bonjour
  • OTA downloads from the iTunes Store
  • iPhone rebate with 2-year AT&T contract

Sounds a little too good to be true to me. Especially from a free WordPress blog with only one post. But a guy can dream can’t he? It’s worth reading his descriptions of each of the unannounced features above, but be prepared to be disappointed if they don’t come true.

If they do pan out (fingers crossed) pre-announcing a tech gadget as important as the iPhone six months in advance may have its advantages after all. Apple is having us do their R&D for them - for free!
