Apple cancelling Personal Shopping appointments for 29 June

Apple Personal ShoppingI made a Personal Shopping appointment at my local Apple retail store earlier in the week while purchasing a new MacBook.

While I was there a store associate implied that a Personal Shopping appointment would be a good way to ensure that I got an iPhone when they go on sale on June 29th.

From the Apple Web site:

What is Personal Shopping?
Personal Shopping is a whole new way to shop at the Apple Store. A free service where you and a dedicated Mac Specialist explore and test-drive products to find out which ones are best for you. We know the store can be busy, so when you’re ready to talk, Personal Shopping is a way for us to give you our undivided attention.

“Brilliant!” I thought and booked the last Personal Shopping appointment that they had for 11 a.m. (when the store opens.) Personalized email notifications followed confirming my appointment.

Much to my chagrin, I received a telephone call from the manager of my local Apple Store yesterday to “reschedule” my appointment for 29 June. No reason was given…

If you’ve made a Personal Shopping appointment for the 29th in hopes of securing an iPhone you should call your Apple Store to confirm it. Word is that the decision to cancel the appointments for the 29th was made on a corporate level.

Calls to the Apple Retail store in question for an explanation were not returned. Way to treat your AppleCare, ProCare customers Apple!

Update: It turns out that iPhone won’t be available for sale until 6 p.m. local time on the 29th. So my 11 a.m. appointment wouldn’t have worked anyway.
