Dear Apple: Where is the MagSafe auto adapter?

MagSafe AdapterDear Apple,When you announced the new MacBook Pro on 10 January 2006 you touted the new MagSafe adapter as an important new feature. While I like the concept I really need a power adapter for my vehicle. With the onset of the summer solstice (tomorrow) more people find themselves outdoors and on the road. While I should probably leave my MacBook at home, alas, I cannot. It’s not very economical to purchase several extra batteries (at US$130 each) to bring on long road trips and to places where power may not be available. Also, I’m not sure that it’s safe to carry around a bunch of extra batteries around in a car where temperatures can exceed 100 degree Fahrenheit on a sunny day.

I know that you released the MagSafe Airline Adapter on 08 November 2006, 225 days (7+ months) after the MagSafe machines were announced – but it’s not enough. I drive much more than I fly, and when I fly I’m not usually in Business of First Class (where EmPower ports exist).

I also know that power inverters exist, but they’re expensive and hot.

I originally thought that your patent on the MagSafe adapter and it’s complex 14-piece connector were “cool” features but now I’m realizing that shutting out third-party developers from MagSafe technology is a bad idea.

It’s been 527 days (17+ months) since you came out with MagSafe technology. I just need a MagSafe adapter for my car.

Please?
