If you liked the iPhone invisibleSHIELD video but can’t believe the price, less expensive options are available.

David Berg from the Philadelphia PowerBook User Group (PPUG) wanted to know what the plastic stuff was really made of and wondered if he could buy it in bulk. After some research in Google Blog search he found that many were speculating that invisibleSHIELD is, in fact 3M ScotchGuard Paint Protection Film. The 3M film is used on sports cars, boats, head lights, and so on for protection.

After some searching David found that Xpel.com sells the 3M ScotchGuard Paint Protection Film very inexpensively. If you click on the Products drop down menu you can buy “bulk film by the inch“; a 2 by 12-inch strip (enough to cover three iPhones) costs just US$2, a 24 by 12 inch piece costs just $13.

Personally, I’m not going to cover my iPhone screen just yet, but I’ve put the film on all my iPhones and digital cameras and it’s fantastic.

Do you prefer to cover your iPhone screen or go naked?
