iPhone battery tips from AppleApple has also posted some tips for maximizing your iPhone battery life. Since it will cost you US$86 to have Apple replace your battery when it eventually fails, plus $29 for a loaner iPhone it behooves you to pay attention to what Apple suggests.

Some highlights:

  • Heat will degrade your battery’s performance the most. (Don’t leave it in a hot car all day).
  • iPhone works best from 32° to 95° F.
  • Always make sure iPhone has the latest software from Apple. (Huh? maybe we could worry about updates if Apple would actually release an update).
  • Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month. (That shouldn’t be a problem for most iPhone junkies).
  • Lock your iPhone when you aren’t using it. (The default auto-lock preference of one minute is pretty aggressive and should suffice).
  • Turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when not in use. (Wifi constantly hunts for access points but default).
  • Use auto-brightness. (This is on by default).
  • Using iPod EQs uses more of your processor since they aren’t encoded in the song. (This is a really good one that isn’t obvious).

In a previous post I did some iPhone myth busting and took a poll on wether people charged their iPhones nightly or only when they ran out of juice. I’m still in the charge-it-only-when-needed camp.
