Mac mini 2007

In addition to the new iMac and iLife and iWork software suites announced in today’s product presentation, Apple also used today to quietly launch a much-needed update to the Mac mini.

The new Mac mini was only mentioned briefly after Apple executives were asked about it during a Q&A session after the formal presentation.

Q: “How is the Mac Mini doing? And are you updating it?”
A: “We are refreshing the Mac Mini and making it even faster. It’s already in the online store.”

The Mac mini is mostly a speed-bump, getting a faster processor. The 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1/80GB configuration is selling for US$599. The 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1/120GB configuration sells for US$799.

True to their word, the new mini is available in the Apple store and is posted on Apple.com, but curiously, the tiniest Mac doesn’t warrant its own press release.

would be a real machine. This would drive the base cost up only a little but it would
make it a much better value.... (Read the rest)
