iPhone unlocked fo’ freeHot on the heels of yesterday’s US$100 iPhone unlocking solution comes an open-source version that’s completely free. Yes free. According to Engadget iUnlock isn’t for the faint of heart and requires iUnlock + nor + the .fls file, which is available in ZIPs all over.

There’s a great list of links where you can grab the tools here. Some people may lose YouTube support after running iUnlock but a bunch of little elves are working on that too.

The hack is reportedly 100 percent resistant to an iPhone restore and there’s a Mac GUI iUnlock app (iUnlock) in beta for people not comfortable with the current three step solution.

First of all I’m gonna warn you make sure your running version 1.02 firmware.

Settings → General → About → Version. Modem Firmware should also say 03.14.08_G

Your phone will also need to be jailbroken…

I tried running it on my MacBook and got an error: “You cannot run unlock because it is not supported on your system.” Obviously, YMMV.

Halcyon days indeed.
