If every day were a Circuit City liquidation sale...
Circuit City stores are a bit busy as the company liquidates its inventory.
Perhaps if there were a liquidation sale every day Circuit City would have survived.
Circuit City said Friday it would liquidate and a day later its stores were bustling–at least in my locale. The lines were long–about 20 folks deep–and that’s a big contrast to what happened during the holiday shopping season. I was in a Circuit City in mid-December and it could have been mid-March.
The consumer vultures were circling all the stuff you’d actually want on the cheap–flat panel TVs, Wii games etc. (more reports). But these items only had discounts of 10 percent. Apple gear such as Nanos and the iPod touch carried no discount. Toss in the sales tax and you can probably find a better deal online. And given the hassle parking the car in a crowded lot the 10 percent off is a buzzkill. How far will you hike through a parking lot when it’s 15 degrees?
Meanwhile, all the items you don’t want–furniture, cables and other stuff–had discounts of 30 percent.
My advice is to hold out and save yourself the hassle. All of Circuit City’s inventory has to go so the discounting will only get better.
