The latest move in the data center war comes today from Dell, which made a grand announcement of new products and a new strategy that’s promising customers a more efficient and less expensive IT environment. It sounds a lot like the same pitch coming lately from HP, IBM and, most recently, Cisco.

Dell ups its game by offering a new “breakthrough portfolio” that includes 14 new enterprise products such as next generation PowerEdge servers and Precision workstations based on the next generation of Intel’s Xeon processors.

Also part of the announcement is Dell Management Console (DMC), a proprietary Symantec-powered management software that joins the systems management from various IT environments into a single console. In a statement, Brad Anderson, senior vice president of Dell’s Enterprise Product Group, said:

The entire value proposition of business technology has changed. Businesses no longer have to choose between tackling growing compute demands and keeping costs low. Dell’s new suite of servers, workstations, storage, software and services offers the whole package: powerful, efficient and affordable infrastructure products with simple tools to manage them without the need for costly services engagements.
