Treo surfaces with Windows Mobile: PalmOS R.I.P.

For a long time, because of its failure to hitch its wagon to one of the primary development wagons (Java or .NET), I’ve been predicting that the PalmOS from PalmSource (the Palm operating system company) is on its way to becoming totally irrelevant if not dead altogether.  Although I can’t guarantee that it’s not a hoax (the videos look darn convincing), Engadget has a report showing the forthcoming Treo 670 running the Windows Mobile operating system.  There’s no going back now.  Cue the music please.  Yes, Dust in the Wind by Kansas.  Thanks to Jason Calacanis for the link.

Maybe it's a threat?
Palm might not see much of a future trying to go it alone against the beast of Redmond. The PalmOS might well be dead. But switching to Windows mobile is just digging the grave deeper. Microsoft wi... (Read the rest)
