Qualcomm, Broadcom settle patent suit for $891 million
Qualcomm and Broadcom said Monday that they have settled a four-year lawsuit with a multi-year patent agreement valued at $891 million over four years.
Qualcomm and Broadcom have been fighting in court over wireless chip patents in three different venues–the International Trade Commission, a U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, the European Commission and the Korea Fair Trade Commission.
Broadcom alleged that Qualcomm was infringing on various patents. The settlement doesn’t affect Qualcomm’s 3G licensing business.
In a statement, Qualcomm said it will pay Broadcom $200 million in the quarter ending June 30. Other terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
