Gallery: PC gems from the 1980s
The National Museum of Computing’s PC Gallery in London recently opened and Nick Heath of sister site Silicon.com was on scene to relay the evolution of the computer.
Here are a few favorites from the gallery:
A Mac portable. In 1989 this would have run you $6,500. It was loaded with a 16 Mhz processor and 1MB of memory.
There’s the Sinclair ZX81. This 1981 gem only ran you $100, but with a 3.25Mhz processor and 1KB of memory it was hard to justify a higher price.
And the Oric-1 and Oric Atmos from Tangerine Computer Systems. This PC was launched in 1983 with a 1Mhz processor and up to 48KB of memory.
