Need a financial planner? Hire this dog

Off-topic: In the strange, but sadly true department. Financial planner Allan Roth’s puppy Max has been named one of the top investment advisors.

Roth, a financial planner who blogs on MoneyWatch.com, details how he got an announcement from SLD Industries and followed the bouncing mail to put his pup on the investment adviser fast track. Ultimately Roth landed his pup in the Consumers’ Research Council of America’s 2009 edition to the “Guide to America’s Top Financial Planners.”

Anyone who has an email address knows that you can be nominated for various awards. And some you have to pay for. For the most part it’s all spam. Roth is one of those odd ducks who actually followed through on a pitch—this one in snail mail—to see what happened.

Maybe we should all enter our pets for these prestigious awards.
