brucecarver3.jpgAs part of our ongoing CIO Sessions series to find out what’s on the minds of CIOs, I interviewed Bruce Carver, CIO of Dana Corp., a $9 billion auto parts manufacturer. The podcast interview can be delivered directly to your desktop or MP3 player if you’re subscribed to our podcasts (See ZDNet’s podcasts: How to tune in), or you can just download the MP3

Carver left the upper ranks of PepsiCo’s IT staff about a year ago to manage the IT transformation of Dana, moving the 100-year-old firm from a decentralized collection of applications and infrastructure to a more centralized framework. Carver talks about dealing with "having too much IT and not the right IT," significantly winnowing down the 5,000 IT vendors, 8,000 applications and over 900 projects worldwide, and getting the most out of his $140 million annual budget for IT. He also gives his view on the current buzzwords and trends–SOA, virtualization, outsourcing, open source and even Web 2.0. The podcast was conducted at the Niku 2005 Global User Conference in San Francisco on November 7.
