Internet Identity Workshop
Kaliya Hamlin, Doc Searls, and I will be hosting the second Internet Identity Workshop (IIW) in Mountain View, CA on May 1-3, 2006. IIW deals with what people are calling user-centric identity and Identity 2.0. LID, OpenID, YADIS, i-names, SXIP, Microsoft’s InfoCard system, and the recently announced Higgins project from IBM and Novell are examples of these kind of identity systems.
We did the first workshop last October and it was a huge success. I was really happy with the open format of the second day and how people got together and solved real problems. In light of that, this time, we’ll have two full days of open format "unconference" on May 2nd and 3rd. The afternoon of the 1st will be a more traditional conference session aimed at people who haven’t been in the Identity 2.0 conversation and need a primer to get up to speed so they can participate fully on the 2nd and 3rd.
There’s no prerequisite to coming other than an interest on how identity ought to work on the Internet. You might have a new proposal or just want to sit down and discuss some of the existing proposals with their inventors. I know from conversations I’ve had that people with real identity problems got answers last time. I’m certain that will happen again.
