Microsoft veep goes on SP2 hotseat in audio Q&A
In a ZDNet audiocast exclusive, Microsoft Security Business Technology Unit corporate vice president Rich Kaplan addresses questions regarding how many of the 200 million-plus users of Windows XP can really take advantage of SP2’s Data Execution Prevention (DEP) security feature and responds to concerns regarding the built-in firewall’s lack of outbound blocking as well as its ability to be programmatically shut down by viruses and worms. In the interview, Kaplan admits that Windows XP users need one of the latest processors from AMD or Intel to enable DEP but dodges the truth about the firewall’s shortcomings. Kaplan discusses some of SP2’s other useful features such as the unified security center and newly introduced safeguards that should help prevent malicious e-mail attachments from inadvertently being opened.
