Glimpses beyond technology's horizon
Forward-thinking industry observers are usually looking only one to three years out. Many see no farther than the next release of Windows. We’re often so busy solving today’s problems that we forget to take the long view, which brings me to Over the Horizon, ZDNet’s newest blog. Justin Rattner, chief technology officer for Intel, offers a unique vantage point into the future of information technology. He writes:
My purpose in starting this blog is to help people understand the longer perspective—to look over the horizon five years, and in some cases, as much as ten years out. Since part of my responsibilities include directing a 1,000-person research organization, a lot of what I hope to say will be real-time. We’ll go inside the labs and talk about the ideas and experiments now underway…
Justin also emphasizes that much of the best data will come from outside of Intel. "Since talking to technology leaders across industry and academia is part of my job description, I’ll do my best, without breaking confidentiality, to bring you their insights and observations."
