Socialtext for the sometimes connected

Socialtext launched a new offline version of its enterprise wiki software today. Socialtext Unplugged, developed in collaboration with Osmosoft, which makes TiddlyWiki, an open source AJAXed application, allows users to make wiki changes offline and then synch up with the server when connected. As Socialtext CEO Ross Mayfield acknowledges, "There is no such thing as 'always on.'" At least not reliably today. As Microsoft likes to promote, the hybrid application model that accommodates online and offline usage is the most practical scenario for the near future. 

In his blog post about Unplugged, Ross avoids the 2.0 language in his company's press release, which goes: "Designed for the 'Sometimes On' Generation, New Offering Continues Socialtext's Commitment to Making Enterprise 2.0 a Practical Reality." Different worlds…
