I'm pleased to announce that we've beefed up our chip coverage with the addition of John Spooner to the ZDNet blog network.

John will be manning the ChipLand blog, which will chronicle the travails of Intel and AMD and other semiconductor developments. ChipLand arrives just in time for the CES shindig, which may  include a few Core 2 Quad announcements from Intel.

To say I'm familiar with John's work is a bit of an understatement since I worked with him numerous times, most recently at eWeek. Currently, he works for  Technology Business Research [TBR] as an analyst and contributes to the TBR Computer Business Quarterly group's coverage of semiconductors and personal computers. He covers AMD, Intel, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Lenovo Group. Prior to joining TBR, John worked for nearly a decade as a journalist and most recently was a senior writer for Ziff Davis' eWEEK magazine and eWeek.com. Prior to that he's written for PC Week, ZDNet News and CNET News.com.

Welcome John.
