Oracle president Charles Phillips says it's easier to upgrade to new versions of its software.

Here's what he said:

"The upgrading experience has gotten a lot easier. It may not be as daunting as you're thinking five years ago."

I'd like to hear your experiences to double check this quote. If interested email me for a future post. If not, provide your experiences in Talkback.

Whether Phillips assessment is on target is critical to Oracle's Fusion strategy. John Wookey, senior vice president of applications development, said customers that upgrade to Oracle's new versions of applications will be taking an incremental step to Fusion. Ultimately, these steps will make a next generation move easier. Oracle is also spending more time in the front of the development process to focus on upgrades, anticipate how customers will behave and minimizing the need for recoding, said Wookey.

"We think it will be cost effective to move," says Wookey.
