Demo 07: WorkLight unleashes enterprise data via RSS
Serendipity Technologies introduced WorkLight, an server-based application that traffics in secure RSS within a corporate setting to deliver what the company describes as "Web 2.0-style" access to corporate data. It's a lightweight integration service that allows users to define corporate data feeds and connect them to end user applications, such as RSS aggregators, Web-based personal pages and AJAX widgets. Users can also subscribe to feeds defined by others or share their feeds with others. Worklight supplies adapters for extracting feeds from the popular enterprise applications.
WorkLight is a good example of giving end users more control, while complying with corporate security policy. "We are different than enterprise portals," said Shahar Kaminitz, founder and CEO of the company. "Everything is in the hands of the end users." For example, enterprise data, such as sales leads, can be put in the del.ici.ous social bookmark manager.
The data access is governed by the corporate access control and security policies for each user, along with integration with Web-based aggregators, directory services, authentication via HTTP basic, multi-factor authentication, SSL encryption for data in transit, optional data encryption of content cached on WorkLight servers, auditing and session management and expiration.
WorkLight is priced as an annual license fee (about $120 per user per year) based on the number of users who access data from corporate applications. Currently, the company has three large enterprise customers.
