HP wins big NASA contract

Hewlett-Packard was awarded a seven-year $5.6 billion contract by NASA to deliver technology to other U.S. federal agencies.

Under a NASA contract–dubbed the unwieldy NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP) IV Class 5–HP will offer desktops, workstations and Linux and Unix blade PCs, servers and printers. The amount of gear to be delivered is indefinite.

Through the NASA SEWP contract the government’s agencies can buy HP gear. For instance, the Department of Veteran Affairs uses NASA’s template. In a statement, HP said the NASA contract guarantees U.S. General Services Administration schedule prices, low surcharges of 0.6 percent with caps of $18,000 for orders topping $3 million and personalized order tracking and support.
