Verisign said that CEO Stratton Sclavos has resigned. He will be replaced by William Roper Jr., who was on the board of directors.

Roper had been on Verisign’s board of directors since 2003. Previously, Roper was an executive vice president and CFO at Science Applications International Corp.

In a statement Roper said:

“I look forward to working with Verisign’s management team to capitalize on the company’s growth opportunities while ensuring the strongest possible emphasis on managerial discipline and execution.”

Verisign (see all content) just completed its stock option grant review and found no wrongdoing by Sclavos, who had been at Verisign for 12 years.

Verisign also named Edward Mueller chairman of the board. Mueller, who joined Verisign as a director in 2005, had been the former CEO of Williams-Sonoma.
