Get ready for Wiimbledon
A week before the real Wimbledon kicks off Brooklyn’s first Wii tennis tournament will kick off at a bar called Barcade.
The tournament, dubbed Wiimbledon, has been panned by real jocks. But for the geek set it may be the biggest thing since Atari, Intellivision and Coleco.
According to the Wiimbledon site there will be prizes and beer–probably a good amount of it too. The shindig kicks off June 23.
Now this tourney isn’t affiliated with much of anything. Nintendo and Wimbledon certainly have nothing to do with this Wii extravaganza. Nevertheless, this pup appears to be getting press.
One of the folks behind the tournament, Steve Bryant, is already getting press calls from some British journalists.
Disclosure: Steve is a former reporter of mine at eWeek. He’s a wacky for the Wii–and beer.
