Hewlett-Packard said it will acquire SPI Dynamics for an undisclosed sum as security companies are quickly gobbled up.

IBM recently acquired Watchfire in a similar deal. Meanwhile, companies such as RSA Security and ISS have also been acquired by EMC and IBM, respectively.

SPI assesses the security of software code. The acquisition gives HP a foothold in the application quality market.

In a statement, HP said SPI is already integrated with HP’s Quality Center software. SPI has 140 employees in Atlanta and has more than 1,000 customers.
