Intel to launch Penryn in November
Intel CEO Paul Otellini outlined timelines for the company’s Penryn family of processors.
Otellini outlined the company’s plans in a speech at the Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco. Here are the key points based on a statement from Intel.
- Otellini showed the first working chips using 32 nanometer technology. Intel’s 32 nanometer process is “on track to begin production in 2009.”
- The Penryn (all resources) family of processors, based on 45 nanometer technology, will be due in November.
- Intel (all resources) also demonstrated Nehalem due next year.
- Otellini said: “Our tick-tock strategy of alternating next generation silicon technology and a new microprocessor architecture — year after year — is accelerating the pace of innovation in the industry. Tick-tock is the engine creating today’s most advanced technologies and keeps them coming out at a rapid cadence. Our customers and computer users around the world can count on Intel’s innovation engine and manufacturing capability to deliver state-of-the-art performance that rapidly becomes mainstream.”
- Intel said it will “quickly ramp the technology with plans to introduce 15 new 45nm processors by the end of the year and another 20 in the first quarter of 2008.”
