Speaking at the Intel Developer Forum, Gordon Moore, Intel co-founder and the Moore in Moore’s Law gives his law 10 to 15 years before it hits the wall. Moore’s Law states that the number of transistors on a chip roughly doubles every two years. The structures inside processors just don’t have much more room to shrink. “You can’t go beyond one molecular layer and you can’t really, practically go beyond five molecular layers,” Moore said. We aren’t doomed to a fate of bigger chips after Moore’s Law hits the wall–new technologies, such as three-dimensional chips, will save the day…we hope.
