Google confirmed Monday what most watchers of the search giant have known for weeks if not months–the company is doubling down on the iPhone.

Garett Rogers has been keeping tabs on Google’s iPhone efforts with the most recent item being the addition of iGoogle. In addition in recent weeks Google has tied together Search, Gmail, Calendar and Reader along with other apps into one interface (see Techmeme).

Google has announced a few more tweaks to coincide with the opening of Macworld. Here’s a quick list of what Google has whipped up:

  • An interface that’s easier to use with a touch screen;
  • Custom default tabs. Google users can customize their apps that appear on the Google.com menu bar so they are readily available.
  • One sign in for all Google services.
  • Calendar has a one month view, which comes in handy on the iPhone.
  • All iGoogle gadgets are available on the iPhone.

The big picture: It’s clear that the iPhone is Google’s mobile application lab. Now if it can produce similar integration for other mobile phones–perhaps Android (all resources)–we’ll really be rolling.
