JamSpam redux? This week's keystroke loggers light the lightbulb
Remember JamSpam? JamSpam consisted of two events that brought together everybody (mostly vendors) who was anybody when it came to e-mail to talk about how different e-mail systems could cooperate on standards in a way that eliminated spam. These two meetings, hosted at CNET’s headquarters in San Francisco, were where the anti-spam execs from Microsoft, Yahoo, Earthlink, and AOL exchanged cards for the first time. One month after the second Jamspam event in March 2003, AOL, Microsoft, and Yahoo (the AMY consortium) formally announced that they would work together to rid the Internet of spam. Earlier this year at CeBIT in New York City, MediaSurvey.com’s Sam Whitmore asked me what cause I would hold the vendor community accountable for next. I didn’t have an answer. But as a result of this week’s keystroke logging security transgressions, for which no defense exists, now I do and I’ll publish the idea this Friday. Hint: it has to do with firewalls and already, Zone Labs is on-board with the idea.
