Google, XML, and RSS: a Bermuda Triangle that could sink Microsoft?
RSS-maven Steve Gillmor says that those who are down on Google have it all wrong and that if the bump in the company’s market capitilization on its opening day of trading isn’t enough to convince you, then a look under the hood of Google’s strategy should be. Google is about way more than search contends Gillmor. It’s about RSS and XML driven services and applications that will could be the undoing of Microsoft. "Microsoft’s strategic errors with Internet Explorer and Outlook have created an opening big enough for a well-funded tank like Google to rumble through" opines Gillmor. "Microsoft’s dominant browser share is now a millstone around the company’s neck. With Longhorn held hostage behind backwards-looking security updates to Windows XP, Bill Gates seems hamstrung in following through on his interest in RSS."
