MGE Office Protection: Get yer' 5 kVA UPSes a la carte, or as a 20 kVA entrée

As I continued my hunt for new and interesting technologies on the Interop 2007 show floor here in Las Vegas, I encountered MGE Office Protection Systems. The company claims to have a new uninterruptible power supply solution that offers a degree of investment protection given the way it’s low-of-the-hi-end 5 kVA UPS Pulsar MX UPS can be purchased as a stand alone UPS, or as a part of a larger enclosed solution that takes four Pulsars, thus scaling to 20 kVA.

According to MGE O.P. Systems business development manager Brad Amado (who appears in the video above), MGE O.P. is looking to fill that market need where companies that have invested in 5 kVA gear don’t have to throw out that investment when the time comes to upgrade to something with a little more horsepower.

If today, you’re running with one 5 kVA Pulsar MX in your standard 19″ telecom rack and you need to scale you’re UPS up, you simply take the Pulsar out of its existing rack location and add it to an enclosure (the Pulsar MX Frame, also from MGE O.P.) with one or more other 5 kVA Pulsar units (up to a total of 20 kVA). The chief selling proposition of this architecture is that once it comes time to scale above 5 kVA, you don’t have to throw out your existing investment. You simply re-use it in a slightly different context. In the video, Amado shows us the gear and explains how it works (and we find out the important part: how much?).
