Scrounging around Enterprise 2.0 on Boston's waterfront
ZDNet multimedia wingman Matt Conner and I are at CMP’s Enterprise 2.0 conference today and tomorrow looking for interesting video opportunities. So far, the lineup is shaping up pretty nicely. Today, I interviewed Cisco’s senior veep of emerging technologies Marthin De Beer about the company’s claims to have revolutionized the videoconferencing business with its TelePresence solution. As you’ll see in the video coming up (later today or tomorrow), not only did we talk about TelePresence, we used it to tape the interview (DeBeers was in one room, I was in another, and we each had our own TelePresence setups).
I also interviewed the OpenTeams’ director of business development Tim Hamilton. Based on what I saw (and what you’ll eventually see in the video), OpenTeams is doing a pretty good job taking the icky out of wiki. I should know. I run several wikis myself including the MediaWiki-based wiki for Mashup Camp and there’s a fair amount of ickiness to using wikis, especially for non-technical users. What’s interesting about OpenTeams (it’s a hosted solution) is how all collaborations have a project-context to them. Think Groove meets the wiki (and yes, Hamilton thinks OpenTeams obviates the need for Sharepoint).
Tomorrow, we’ll be back at the event taping interviews with SpikeSource CEO Kim Polese (who’ll undoubtedly be talking about the hosted version of SpikeSource’s SuiteTwo bundle of Web 2.0 applications announced yesterday), the folks at Foldera (OpenTeams could have just as easily been “Foldera meets the wiki”), and then BEA about its Enterprise 2.0 AquaLogic suite of solutions that was recently written up by my fellow blogger Dan Farber (he has the screen shots, we’ll have the video). Time permitting, we may even squeeze something in with the folks at SixApart who recently released a new version of Moveable Type (version 4). Dan wrote that up as well (but we’ll try to use video to bring it to life, again… time permitting).
