Google Web Toolkit: new version, new book

On Friday, Google released version 1.1.10 of GWT, fixing a slew of bugs in their free Java/Ajax framework. A list of bug fixes can be found here. According to tech lead Bruce Johnson,

The great discussions [on the GWT developer forum] motivated us to do an update as fast as we could, so we’ve been working extra hard the last couple weeks to turn around another update quickly.

In addition, the Pragmatic Programmers have published the first book on GWT. My "Google Web Toolkit - Taking the pain out of Ajax" is available as a "Pragmatic Friday" e-book for immediate download. Updates within the same edition are free. A short article on the book, along with a free chapter, can be found on Ajaxian. See also the Friday FAQ.

If you’ll forgive one more plug, I just noticed that O’Reilly is offering the PDF version of my "Eclipse IDE Pocket Guide" at half price. Although you can use other IDEs to develop with GWT, Eclipse is used by the Google developers and for examples in the GWT book. Together, these two books can give you an introduction to both the web toolkit and the IDE for under $14.

Word on the street is that Prentice Hall, Manning, and at least one other publisher have traditional printed GWT books in the works. By early next year it should be a pretty crowded field.
