Churchill Club: CIOs say budgets are up, hiring is up, outsourcing is up
The CIOs of Google, Hasbro, Levi Strauss, and McKesson, said their IT budgets are up this year and they are investing in more revenue generating IT projects.
The CIOs were part of a Churchill Club panel: CIO Agenda moderated by Dave Margulius, an IT analyst at Enterprise Insight.

Randy Spratt, CIO of McKesson, said that software budgets were up 10 per cent but the largest jump is a 60 per cent increase in “on shore” outsourcing. Even though outsourcing is up by a large margin, the company is hiring more IT specialists.
Collaborative tools are being implemented by all CIOs, but wikis are still rare. On demand software received a thumbs up but the non-Google CIOs said it was not yet ready for enterprise scale applications.
The increased IT vendor consolidation was welcomed by the CIOs who said it reduced the number of vendor relationships they had to manage.
Security was not a big issue, all the CIOs said that their “alert level” was at green. However, David Bergen, of Levi’s said he worried about the damage that an insider could do to a company and that there wasn’t enough security to manage the threat from within.
