Sun Microsystems released its CSR report late Monday. It seems to be doing well, but it is difficult to assess such claims. I imagine that it will be tougher to make progress by Sun and other IT companies once the low hanging fruit is harvested.

Here are some highlights from Sun representative Sean Gibson at Bite Communications:

In pursuit of the big T-word, [Transparency] Sun released its CSR report today - and allows anybody to leave comments on it: www.sun.com/2008csrreport. One big point is that the company cut its GHG emissions by 23% between 2005-2007, a goal it had planned to reach by 2012. (The company pledged an additional 20 percent reduction from worldwide operations over 2007 levels by 2015.)

And in early Nov. they’re launching a new version of OpenEco.org - an online community for sharing energy and greenhouse gas info. This will have some very cool visual tools for tracking/reporting/sharing info.
