Not Gillmor Gang had some good moments, but not yet the same old song and dance
I had the pleasure to participate yesterday in a roundtable podcast modeled after the late, great Gillmor Gang. Jason Calacanis was the host in Steve Gillmor's (temporary?) absence in this "beta" CalacanisCast "not Gillmor Gang" production on PodTech.net.
Jason is actively entrepreneurial at Sequoia (and won't say much about what he's up to other than it seems ambitious). Steve was apparently last seen in the waiting room of a Silicon Valley law firm, reading a three-month old copy of Contracts Quarterly. The rest of us are up to our usual tricks.
It was super to be back at the real-time punditry with Doc Searls, Dan Farber, Hugh MacLeod, Mike Arrington, and Ryan Block. We dug into the iPhone pretty deeply. But I missed Steve. I tend to dis him whenever I can (because I can) yet his surly contrarian straight-shooting gusto was the secret sauce for Gillmor Gang.
I hope we can continue to limp along until the metal toe-cap of the maestro's boot can be applied again to the arse of day's IT topics. I told we'll do another Steve-less episode again next week: same bat-time, same bat-channel.
